Life of Peel and Stick Custom Wallpaper or a Custom Wall Mural

Custom Wallpaper has brought a fresh lease of life into the Wallpaper for Walls. The last decade had seen a downward trend in the demand for wallpapers as there was not much new being done in the segment. Designs were Floral Wallpaper, DamaskWallpaper or Vintage Wallpaper.

The younger generation was feeling a disconnect with the traditional wallpaper ideas. The development of digital printing technology changed the whole wallpaper segment. The demand for Custom Wallpaper and Custom Wall Murals has almost doubled in the last 12 months.

With the growth of CustomWallpaper, there is a lot of confusion over term: Peel and Stick Wallpaper

What actually is a Peel and Stick Wallpaper?

As the term is itself self explanatory, Peel and Stick Wallpaper is a digitally printed Custom Wallpaper which comes pre-gummed like a normal sticker. You just peel off the back paper and paste the wallpaper on the wall.
While this may sound very easy, it is not an easy task to handle a pre-gummed wallpaper, if you wish to apply it to a large area. Once pasted the paper cannot be moved and it becomes difficult to remove any crinkles or crease which may be formed at the time of installation.
Peel and Stick Wallpaper is a good idea, if your application is for a small area and can be handled easily, say 20 sq. ft.   to 40 sq. ft.
Peel and Stick Wallpaper can be a good choice, if you are going to install the wallpaper on a polished surface, i.e. glass or wood. Since you can spray water on the surface and move the peel and stick wallpaper easily for adjustment with the support of this layer of water molecules.

Can we re-use Peel and Stick Wallpaper?

Unfortunately, this is the most serious mis-conception about the product formulated by some unprofessional custom wallpaper sites and some unscrupulous traders in custom wallpaper.
NO, and it is a big no, you can not re-use Peel and Stick Wallpaper.
Logic 1 : The glue at the back would not be that strong.
Logic 2 : It would have some dust particles or paint/plaster particles attached to the back, when peeled, that the paper will become use less.
Logic 3 : And this is the strongest. How will you handle it? Remember, the original paper came with a peeling paper at the back which you peeled as you installed the paper.
Now, when you are taking off your pre-installed paper, what are you going to do to protect the glue area not messing up the whole large size wall panel into a crumpled mess you cannot even straighten up.

Is Peel and Stick Wallpaper easily removable wallpaper?

Technically speaking – NO. Peel and Stick Wallpaper cannot be an easily removable wallpaper, if you are concerned about the damage to the wall.
Peel and Stick Wallpaper would either leave some glue on the wall surface, which would be difficult to remove or on the other hand it will also peel off some of the paint when you are removing it.
We cannot hundred per cent deny the claim of some companies in this regard, but we at Walls and Murals would request you to verify such claims, before buying the product.
According to our technical experts, Easily Removable Wallpaper is an entirely different product from Peel and Stick Wallpaper.
In fact, we at Walls and Murals claim that if you handle carefully, you can re-use Easily Removable Wallpaper at least once more. We will explain about this product in our blog posts next week.
Meanwhile we would request our readers to share their experience about Peel and Stick Wallpaper, even if they have bought this product from other manufacturers, so that everyone can learn from the tall claims made by some of the Custom Wallpaper manufacturers.
